Diffuse, conveyed emissions and migration flows

Diffuse emissions
By diffuse emissions we mean the emissions that cross the exposed surfaces (cortical cover of the landfill) and are dispersed into the environment.
The monitoring of diffuse emissions is carried out through flame ionizer instrumentation with a sensitivity of 1ppm and a specific Flux-Box.
The number of monitoring points is defined on the basis of the surface of the individual case using the formula provided by the technical standard of the English Agency for the Environment (EA - Enviromental Agency).
The processing of the data collected in the field allows the return of the emissivity value of the single survey point and allows the comparison of the state of the plant with the LFTGN07 regulation relating to the permissible emissions for landfills under cultivation and landfills with permanent cover .
Field surveys are often compared with aerial thermographic surveys capable of identifying thermal anomalies caused by biogas leaks from the landfill surface.

Conducted emissions
By conveyed emissions we mean the emissions that are recovered from the biogas capture plant.
The plant consisting of an intake and combustion plant, primary pipes, regulation stations, secondary pipes and collection wells is a complex system that must be specifically managed and controlled.
The biogas produced by the decomposition of the waste delivered is often used for energy recovery and since it is defined as a "renewable source", the production of electricity through the use of landfill biogas enjoys strong economic incentives.
The surveys on the captation network have the objective of optimizing the capture action, identifying the criticalities, obtaining a greater income in the production of electricity.

Migration flows
By migration flows we mean the portion of biogas that comes out of the landfill containment barriers, migrating precisely to neighboring lands.
There are several historical loved ones of accidents related to the migration of biogas with serious consequences for the safety of citizens.
In cases where the presence of biogas is identified outside the landfill body, remediation systems and perimeter monitoring of the plant are set up.
